HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Thieves targeting residents’ cars were caught on camera in the Katy area, but they're not driving away with them, they're taking the tires.

Harris County Precinct 5 says at least 14 cars have had their tires stolen.

And this isn’t just happening in Katy. From Cypress all the way down to Meyerland, these thieves are hitting up several neighborhoods.

Deputies believe it’s the same group of thieves that are doing it. Those thieves, most recently, were caught on camera.

Video shows a car drive up, casing the neighborhood. Moments later, two people walk up to a truck parked in the driveway.

Then, they get to work, jacking it up and taking the tires and rims. They left a truck on concrete blocks.

Deputies say these thieves usually work in groups of two or four, and they’ve been spotted driving around in a black car, possibly a Toyota Camry with the headlights off.

Deputies say the thieves have been targeting mostly trucks and SUVs. The thefts happen in the early hours, between 2 and 6 a.m. when most folks are sleeping.

So be aware and if you know anything about this, contact Precinct 5.
