Lincoln softball faces Benicia for regional championship

After falling to Sheldon in the CIF Sac-Joaquin section championship on May 29, Lincoln softball season was revitalized as they qualified for the NorCal Division II regional section tournament. The Trojans are in another championship match against Benicia at 4 p.m. today. at the Lincoln Softball Complex.

Led by seniors Daniella Hunter and Jordan Hayes, Lincoln dominated Pleasant Valley with an 8-0 win in the first round of the tournament. The Trojans next opponent, Central Catholic, was more of a nail bitter. During regular season, the Raiders defeated Lincoln back to back in the Ceres Tournament.

Lincoln came out on top this time when Hunter's 9th inning solo home run pushed her team to a 1-0 win over the Raiders.

Coach Rich Fanucchi and the Trojans will have a redo from the section championship this time against an unfamiliar opponent in Benicia. The Panthers led by sophomore Kyra Mason haven't lost a game since May 9.
