A Rolling Meadows man is being held without bail at Cook County Jail on burglary charges after being caught inside a Buffalo Grove home while the owners were away and their remote surveillance system advised them of an intruder.

Anthony Garcia, 25, was charged with residential burglary, a Class 1 felony, after officers responded to a burglary in progress last month. According to a Buffalo Grove Police Department news release, around 7:50 p.m. on March 20, police received a call from owners of home in the 900 block of Beechwood Road regarding an unknown person inside their residence.

The residents, who were not at home at the time, told police they received an alert from their Ring doorbell camera that showed a male subject on their property, the release states. Officers responded to the scene and located a damaged open window on the lower level of the home and observed a man, later identified as Garcia, inside, according to the release.

“Officers identified themselves and attempted to make contact with Garcia.  Garcia ignored attempts and fled to the basement of the residence where he barricaded himself.  Officers provided Garcia with numerous opportunities to respond to their requests, but he remained non-compliant,” authorities said in the release.

Buffalo Grove police requested assistance from the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System and other agencies, the release states.

“After establishing contact and through a successful negotiation process, Garcia was taken into custody,” police said in the release. Garcia was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released back into police custody, according to the release.

The Cook County state’s attorney’s office approved felony residential burglary charges against Garcia, who appeared in bond court March 22 in Rolling Meadows.

Garcia is scheduled to appear in court April 9, according to information on the county jail website.
