LOS ALTOS, CA — The Los Altos Library will begin offering U.S. passport services starting on Oct. 1, the Santa Clara County Library District announced Monday. This marks the third SCCLD library to become an official passport facility.

The expansion comes about a year after the district launched a pilot program of the services at the Milpitas and Cupertino libraries, which has been well-received by customers.

"We have had more than 5,600 applications submitted since we began offering this service
last spring," County Librarian Nancy Howe said.

The Passport Acceptance Facility will help people obtain first-time passports for adults and children, renewals for passports, photo services as well as replacements for lost, stolen and damaged passports. The service is available by appointment only. Visit www.sccl.org/passport to select a time and location among other important details.

Once submitted, passport applications typically take between four to six weeks to be
processed, with the option of paying a $60 expediting fee to cut down the that amount of time by two weeks.
