CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A 17-year-old St. Ignatius High School student was carjacked in the school's parking lot after lacrosse tryouts on Thursday, police said.

The incident happened about 4 p.m. in the parking lot on West 30th Street and Lorain Avenue.

The student told police he got inside his mother's silver 2016 Kia Sportage and started typing out an email on his phone, according to police reports.

Two men walked up to the driver's side door, opened the door and said: "Get out of the car and give me your cellphone," according to police reports.

Before he could get out, the men grabbed him, threw him to the ground and stole his phone, police reports say. They jumped in the SUV and sped off, police reports say.

Another student witnessed the carjacking and police reviewed surveillance footage from the high school, confirming the student's statement.

Police tried to find the SUV by touring the neighborhood, but did not find it, police reports say. The student was not injured. No arrests have been made.

St. Ignatius Director of Communications Lisa Metro declined comment.
