THE Bahrain School Girls’ Varsity soccer team’s undefeated season in the Bahrain Private School Sports League culminated with a 6-0 victory against St Christopher’s School at Bahrain Rugby Football Club.
The teams had met previously during regular season with Bahrain School claiming a 2-0 win against St Christopher’s.
In a show of sportsmanship, Bahrain School agreed to play a 10-a-side match as the St Christopher’s team arrived with 10 players and no subs.
The Lady Falcons began strongly - pressuring their opponents from the onset with a high intensity game that they maintained throughout the match.
The first three minutes saw Bahrain School being awarded a penalty after the ball came off a St Christopher’s player’s hand.
Midfielder Helena Blaisdell-Black took the kick, blasting the ball out of the goalkeeper’s reach and into the net.
Helena followed this penalty by scoring two more goals in the first-half and earning a hat-trick. Both goals came through powerful shots taken from the right of the goal and from outside of box.
In the second-half, Bahrain School extended the lead as a St Christopher’s defender placed the ball into her own net from a corner kick.
Hala Al Zayani scored her first goal of the match 10 minutes into the second-half from near the right-hand corner which left St Christopher’s goalkeeper no chance.
Al Zayani added to her goal tally with another goal which was assisted by Sonomi Maeomote.
Goalkeeper Luna Pucillo made some excellent saves and the defensive line worked as a cohesive unit to keep St Christopher’s off the scoreboard.
The Bahrain School girl will now begin regular practice in preparation for the Dodea European Soccer Tournament in May.
