A Lexus RC F GT3 race car caught fire in the paddock at the 2018 Goodwood Festival Of Speed. Driver Scott Pruett is and thankfully unhurt, but the car looks pretty well cooked.
You can watch the conflagration from a good angle on Express UK’s website, but there are a lot of autoplay videos there that might slow your computer down so consider yourself warned.
Otherwise, you have to watch it vertically from civilian uploads.
This angle below gives you a good perspective on where the car was exactly when it caught fire. Express reports that the car began to burn after its run, and that Pruett, who’s been racing forever and was behind the wheel as this happened, is OK. Lexus later confirmed the same.
At the time of this writing, the fire’s cause has not been determined. We’ve reached out to Lexus for more details and will update if and when we hear anything.
Meanwhile the RC F GT3, when it’s not on fire, is a 5.4-liter V8 beast with about 500 horsepower pushing a mere 2,900 pounds. Pruett raced one last year with 3GT Racing and one of these cars is currently competing in the Blancpain GT Series in Europe. Probably not this exact one, though. Not after this day.
Updated: Friday, July 13, 2018, 3:25 p.m. ET: Lexus confirmed that the car in the fire was a model year 2015 race car show car, which “can be used for racing,” but is based in Europe and is not one of the IMSA competition vehicles.
