It's more like a hotel than a hut - but a young tradesman saved himself thousands by building a home-from-home for barely £2,000.

Shepherd's huts sell for more than £15,000 in stores but Max Green wanted to build his very own deep in the Worcestershire countryside.

And the incredible result - complete with steam-powered hot tub - dazzled TV architect George Clarke when it was featured on the star's Amazing Spaces Channel 4 show.

With the help of his dad, 23-year-old Max used traditional techniques datinbg back centuries - and even crafted his own nuts and bolts.

The result was a cosy and romantic space which featured a log-burning stove, the adjoining hot tub and a rustic exterior made from a disused cattle shed.

The entire hut cost Max, who has volunteered for the Severn Valley Railway, just £2,130 - busting his initial tiny estimate of £700

“I wanted it to look like it’s been sitting here for a hundred years-plus,” he said. “I’m really proud.”

And the result dazzled Clarke. He told viewers: "I think it's brilliant there are young people in the world like Max.

"I just wish there were more like him because the result of that love and passion is the most wonderful shepherd’s hut that’s packed with charm, character and beauty.

"For many years to come, he can sit in his hot tub looking at what he’s achieved and he can say with a lot of pride: ‘I built that’."
