A drum teacher making a cross-country trip from Brooklyn to California completed the first phase of his trip on Thursday- with a stop in Niagara Falls.
Jeremy Schulz, the founder of Beats for a Cause, is making the trek to raise funds for an anti-bullying foundation.
Schulz, a California native who recently lived in New York City, said that he had wanted to see Niagara Falls for some time.
The stop in the Cataract City took him over 100 miles out of his way, but Schulz says it was worth it.
“It’s magnificent,“ Schulz said. “One of my favorite parts was walking down the Niagara River and it’s nice and calm, then it gets rougher and rougher and you can feel the energy building up.“
Schulz’s endpoint is the Sun Dial Bridge in Redding, California, his hometown. Along the way, he’s meeting a variety of people and speaking with them about their bullying experiences.
“I have seen farmers in the middle of Pennsylvania, tattooed bikers, pastors, and soccer moms, who ask me about what my cause and what I’m doing and it’s two people relating to a very human experience,“ Schulz said. “Everyone has gone through it in one way or another, but I’ve found most people don’t talk about it.“
Schulz, who runs an online drumming school, picks a different charity to support each year through Beats for a Cause.
He’s raising funds through his GoFundMe campaign for Fight for the Forgotten, an organization that seeks to help those without a voice- from people around the world suffering from a water crisis to those who are bullied.
