Active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia decline on Tuesday, three new deaths reported

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 2,710 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 89 cases since the last report.

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (33), Barbour (9), Lewis (10), Randolph (188) and Webster (5) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of four active cases in the last 24 hours.

Three additional deaths have been attributed to the disease in the last 24 hours, according to the DHHR – an 88-year old male from Berkeley County, a 49-year old female from Raleigh County, and a 61-year old male from Logan County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 15, 2021, there have been 2,950,858 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 163,221 total cases and 2,856 deaths,” according to a press release.

The daily percent positive was 2.53%.

A total of 784,131 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 44% of the state.
