An Alaska Air flight takes off from Palm Springs International Airport. The carrier has announced it will begin service to San Jose, Reno/Lake Tahoe and Boise, Idaho, starting in December.

Alaska Airlines is adding nonstop service to San Jose, Reno/Lake Tahoe and Boise, Idaho, from Palm Springs International Airport, starting in December.

The airline is one of five to announce new and expanded service from Palm Springs over the last few weeks.

Monday's announcement is part of Alaska's "sun and snow" strategy of additional wintertime getaway routes, officials said.

Service is scheduled to begin Dec. 17.

Alaska’s year-round service to San Jose will offer daily flights, while its new seasonal winter service to Reno/Lake Tahoe will offer five weekly flights and Boise will offer daily flights, officials said.

“As demand for leisure travel returns, for those ready to fly the coup, we’re excited to offer even more nonstop routes this winter,” said Brett Catlin, Alaska’s managing director of capacity and alliance.

Alaska currently offers service from PSP to San Francisco, Portland, Ore., and Seattle, Wash.

“We’ve long offered nonstop flights to some of the most popular vacation destinations from Southern California, and we continue to see demand for our unique low fare, high quality experience,” Catlin said.

The city of Palm Springs, which owns the airport, "is extremely pleased that Alaska Airlines is adding three new terrific nonstop routes from PSP that allow for fantastic getaways,” City Manager David Ready said.

“This is excellent news for our destination and we thank Alaska Airlines for their continued investment in Palm Springs International Airport," Ready said.

Seats are on sale as of Monday. For more information about flights, visit www.alaskair.com.

Alaska isn't the only airline adding service to and from Palm Springs International – all welcome news as the airport saw a 97% decrease in air traffic in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
