The Florida-based Southern Region of American Friends of Sheba Medical Center will host the webinar, “Technological Advances That Have Emerged as a Result of COVID-19,” at 7 p.m. on May 19.

The webinar will feature a panel of specialists from Sheba Medical Center in Israel, the University of Miami and the University of South Florida who will speak about innovations and ideas that have emerged as a result of the pandemic, and how they could impact the future of healthcare.

Sheri Zvi, American Friends of Sheba’s chief development officer said, “The first global pandemic in a century has changed our world and will forever change healthcare.”

“In both Israel and the U.S., medical professionals, engineers and inventors have needed to pivot to create and innovate to address COVID-19,” Zvi continued. “Embodying Israel’s determined spirit of innovation and progress, Sheba Medical Center, repeatedly ranked as a top 10 hospital in the world by Newsweek, responded with resourcefulness and resiliency, and emerged as a global focal point in the battle to eradicate COVID-19.”

Speakers for the event include Dr. Eyal Zimlichman, Sheba’s deputy general director, chief medical officer and chief innovation officer; Dr. Sylvia Daunert from the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine; and Dr. Summer Decker from the University of South Florida’s Morsani College of Medicine.

Daunert said, “I hope that the audience learns a bit about new technologies that have been developed during the pandemic for the rapid point-of-care diagnosis of COVID-19.”

“Importantly, these technologies are not only useful for the rapid diagnosis of COVID-19, but that they can be easily modified to be used in the detection of other pathogens, i.e., virus or bacteria,” she continued.
