WHETHER SHE BELIEVES IN BILLABLE GET TO HER DESK THIS SESSION -- A BILL WILL GET TO HER DESK THIS SESSION. BRANDON: THERE HAVE BEEN A NUMBER OF BILLS INTRODUCED THIS LEGISLATIVE SESSION AND SOME OF THEM ARE SIMILAR. SOME HAVE SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES. SO I ASKED THE GOVERNOR WHAT SHE WANTS IN THE BILL. >> I THINK PLANT CARE NEEDS TO BE AN ISSUE THAT IS ADDRESSED. I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE CREATING NEW BUSINESSES, BUT EVERYONE HAS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY HERE. BRANDON: THE GOVERNOR TALKING ABOUT HOW MANY PLANTS PROVIDERS CAN GROW. TOO LOW, SUPPLIERS CANNOT MEET DEMAND. TOO HIGH, SMALLER SHOPS CAN’T COMPETE WITH BIG BUSINESSES. SHE ALSO SAY SHE IS OPEN TO THE STATE TAKING SOME OF THE TAX REVENUE AND PUTTING IT INTO COMMUNITIES STRUGGLING THE MOST. >> IT IS FAIR TO HAVE A CONVERSATION AND A DEBATE, AND IT IS ROBUST, THAT THERE ARE COMMUNITIES THAT ARE REALLY HARD-HIT AND STILL IN EDUCATION, SUBSTANCE ABUSE RELIEF, OVER INCARCERATION, THAT WE DO NEED TO THINK ABOUT THOSE SOCIAL JUSTICE ISSUES. >> WHAT SHE DOESN’T WANT IS FOR TUNING THINGS TO BE TACKED ON OR EARMARKED THAT DILUTES THE BILL. >> THERE IS A LOT OF STUFF GOING ON AND I HAVE SEEN CANNABIS FAILED BECAUSE IT IS COMPLICATED. I AM SEEING THE RIGHT MOVEMENT IN BOTH THE HOUSE AND SENATE IN THESE DEBATES. I’M CONFIDENT THAT IT WILL MEET OUR EXPECTATIONS ABOUT SAFETY, PLANTS COUNT, AND GET ME SOMETHING UPSTAIRS I CAN SIGN. BRANDON: THE GOVERNOR ADDED THAT EARLY ESTIMATES ARE HOLDING STRONG, THAT RECREATIONAL CANNABIS, IF PASSED, WOULD CREATE 11,000 NEW JOBS IN NEW MEXICO AND IN THE FIRST FIVE YEARS, GENERATE HALF $1 BILLION IN TAX REVENUE.
