Winter Storm Wesley continued to dump heavy snow on the Midwest on Friday, leaving thousands without power and prompting a state of emergency.

Two deaths have been attributed to the storm. A person was killed Wednesday night after a crash involving a snowplow near Denver International Airport, according to the Denver Police Department. In Minnesota, a 63-year-old woman was killed Wednesday in a vehicle accident as Wesley was gripping the state.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz declared a state of emergency Thursday night in 64 counties and three tribal nations to deal with the heavy snow and flooding that continues in the state. He also authorized the state's National Guard to provide emergency aid in areas struggling with storm and flooding dangers.

For a third straight day, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem closed government offices Friday in most of the state's 66 counties.
