The Cahill+ website explains that the Australian made his first venture into the world of fashion during his time in the United States, playing for New York Red Bulls from 2012 until 2015.

'Born out of international football icon Tim Cahill’s long running love and association with fashion, CAHILL+ was conceptualized in New York while Tim was playing for the city’s Redbull’s soccer team,' it says.

'Having immersed himself in New York’s vibrant design culture, the city’s street style was a launching pad for Tim Cahill’s legacy brand and the CAHILL+ DNA.

'Fusing modernist design with the ergonomics and technical trims of premium sportswear, CAHILL+ is innovative in its construction, prints and use of high performance textiles.'

Cahill's successful fashion forays provided an upturn in fortunes after starting the week by being released from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.

'I'm very sorry to announce that I have reached an agreement with Shanghai Shenhua to terminate my contract after being told that I'm not part of the new coach Manzano's plans for the 2016 season having only just signed a new contract in November,' Cahill wrote on Instagram.

'This is very sad especially after what I feel I have helped to build in Shanghai Shenhua on and off the park. Just thinking about saying goodbye to my team-mates and especially the amazing fans is heartbreaking.

'Regardless of whether my contract is being honored and paid out in full, I would much rather have seen it out and finished what we started. I will always think about what could have been for us as a club in 2016.
