NORTH BLOTTER: Impaired driver attempts to put eyeglasses on his foot

Palm Beach Gardens Police

Theft: Working together, a man and a woman began loading a bag with merchandise inside a store in the 3100 block of PGA Boulevard. Unaware they were being watched by the store’s loss prevention associates, the duo filled the bag with more than $500 worth of clothing before being intercepted by the associates. The items were recovered and they were held until police arrived and placed them under arrest.

Battery: While driving home from having dinner, a man and woman began arguing. Their spat turned physical somewhere along Northlake Boulevard between I-95 and Southwind Drive. The woman said her date, who was driving the vehicle, began punching her in the face and that she began throwing punches of her own in retaliation. The woman was left with injuries to both her bottom and top lip as well as her face in general. The man was eventually placed under arrest and later transported to the county jail.

Theft: Working together, two women filled a bag with merchandise while shopping at a store in the 3100 block of PGA Boulevard. One woman selected the merchandise while the other held the bag, and later, walked out with it without making payment. The less-than dynamic duo was stopped as they left the store and later arrested. The merchandise, which was worth $230, was recovered.

Jupiter Police

Theft: Entering a store in the 1600 block of West Indiantown Road, a man selected a box-cutting knife, removed it from it’s package and began using it to open other pieces of merchandise. He then walked to the front of the store and selected a beverage. He consumed half the beverage inside the store before walking out with the knife and soda in his hands. He was stopped, redirected, detained and held until police arrived and placed him under arrest.

DUI: Discovered passed out in his vehicle in the 6300 block of Riverwalk Lane, a man regained consciousness when police approached him. With red, glassy eyes and slurred speech the man was not making any sense as he interacted with police. Asked to put his shoes on and step out of the vehicle the man attempted to comply. He started by placing his right shoe on his left foot and then, rather than put the left shoe on his right foot he went a slightly different route. The man began attempting to put his glasses on his right foot. He told the officer that the glasses belonged on his foot and attempted several ways to get them to fit like a shoe. He later agreed to take part in a roadside sobriety test. He did extremely poorly and was arrested on a DUI charge.

Theft: Pushing a shopping cart around a store in the 2100 block of West Indiantown Road, a man eventually selected a toolbox and a variety package of chips. He then attempted to return the two items at the customer service desk using a receipt from another store. When he was told he could only return the items from the store where he bought them, the man simply pushed the cart out of the store without paying and went on his way. The store’s loss prevention associate was able to provide police with a copy of the surveillance footage as well as prints of the man’s picture.

Theft: Entering a store in the 1600 block of West Indiantown Road, a man immediately selected two power tools. He then attempted to leave the store without paying for the items. He was stopped by the store’s loss prevention officer. The man gave up the items and ran away. He was last seen getting into an unknown vehicle and racing off.

North Palm Beach Police

Theft: Utilizing isles that were not covered by surveillance cameras, a man managed to steal multiple containers of cleaning supplies from a store on U.S. 1. Outside cameras, however, showed the man get out of a four-door sedan and later get back into the same car carrying a basket of stolen merchandise. The footage provided police and the store’s manager with a detailed look at the perpetrator and his vehicle. The manager indicated that the store would prosecute if the thief is captured.

Vehicle burglary: After seeing an unknown person open his friend’s car door, a man asked the perpetrator “can I help you?” The perpetrator quickly walked away from the vehicle, which was parked at a residence on Lakeside Drive. With a description of the suspect, police stopped the man a short distance away and on his person found more than $40 in loose change, several pocket knives, necklaces and prescription medications. It was later determined he had illegally entered several vehicles and had stolen property from inside each. He was arrested and later taken to the county jail.

Resisting arrest: An individual matching the description of a man who was seen huffing paint thinner from a can at a gas station was seen riding his bicycle along Northlake Boulevard. With the can in his hand, the man was swerving all over the sidewalk while riding and officers feared he would ride into traffic. Despite ordering the man to stop and get off his bicycle he was oblivious to the commands and had to be physically stopped. The man’s eyes went wide and his fist clenched into a ball when police attempted to restrain him. He put up a physical fight before he was arrested.

Martin County Sheriff’s Office

Criminal mischief: A 45-year-old man, who told a deputy he does stupid things when he is drunk, defaced a sign at a public facility in the 5800 block of Southeast Community Drive in Stuart. The man said he was drinking wine before going to the facility. In black marker, he wrote “Fix the homeless problem, make America great again.” The man was given a notice to appear in court and was trespassed from the premises.

Disorderly intoxication: An intoxicated man was yelling and disturbing the residents in an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Northeast Dixie Highway in Jensen Beach. When a deputy approached the man, he noted his glassy eyes and balance issues. The man refused to quiet down, taking a fighting stance with his fists clenched and his teeth bared. His verbal response to the deputy’s command was profane. The deputy, concerned that the man was going to attack, readied his Taser. The man’s bravado wilted, and he complied with an order to get on the ground. Backup law enforcement officers took the man into custody despite his efforts to resist. He was arrested and taken to the county jail.

St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office

Drugs: A deputy went to a residence in the 700 block of Silverstream Circle in Fort Pierce to pick up a 25-year-old woman with active warrants on drug-related charges. As she was led outside, she asked to go back into the house to get her cellphone. The deputy entered the home with her and observed a bag with two rocks of crack cocaine in plain view. The woman was taken to the county jail.

Intimidation: A 27-year-old man was arrested after he posted a threatening message on social media about shooting up his workplace in the 3500 block of North U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce. Deputies went to his residence and spoke to the man, who said he asked his boss for a raise. The next day he saw his name on a list of employees who should not report to work. He believed this was to spite him for asking for more money. He said he did not have a gun, as he was a convicted felon. He was arrested and taken to the county jail.

Port St. Lucie Police

Business burglary: Police received a call at 12:15 a.m. reporting that a box truck backed into a store in the 2200 block of Southwest Gatlin Boulevard, shattering the glass doors. At least six people entered the business and began loading guns into the truck. The burglars then fled. Police spotted the truck on Interstate 95, and teamed up with St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office deputies to stop the truck. The suspects fled on foot, but seven were apprehended in a joint law enforcement effort, which also included the Fort Pierce Police Department. Twelve stolen rifles were recovered in addition to two handguns. One suspect remains at large.

Fort Pierce Police

Aggravated assault: A man dropped off his child in the 500 block of North 31st Street, where the child’s mother lives. When he left and was walking on Avenue E, his child’s mother drove by, stopped and yelled at him to give her the child’s belongings. He replied with an obscene gesture. The child’s mother then struck him with her vehicle, knocking him to the ground. When he got up, she hit him again with her vehicle, knocking him down a second time. A witness corroborated the man’s story. The man was treated at the scene for cuts and road rash. Police caught up to the child’s mother, who said she was tired of the child’s father taking her stuff, so she took matters into her own hands. She admitted she hit the man, and said a crack on the vehicle’s window was from striking him. She later claimed the man had jumped into the window of her vehicle. She was arrested and taken to the county jail.

Drugs: An officer spotted a woman riding a bicycle with no lights in the 2000 block of Avenue E. He attempted to stop her, but the woman kept pedaling. He saw her throw a white rocklike substance to the ground. The officer stopped his vehicle, retrieved the object the bicyclist tossed, and stopped the woman. The item she tossed was crack cocaine. She was arrested and taken to the county jail.

Criminal mischief: Thwarted at his attempt to shoplift at a store in the 5000 block of South U.S. 1, a 32-year-old man fled into the parking lot. On his way, he pushed down a motorcycle, causing about $2,000 in damage to it. He admitted his actions to police, explaining that he was mad. He called his mother to make arrangements to pay for the damage, but she was unwilling. The owner of the motorcycle said he wanted to press charges, and the man was arrested.

Drugs: Officers stopped a bicyclist who was riding after dark without lights in the 2000 block of Avenue N. The 33-year-old man told them he had a warrant out of Tennessee for his arrest on charges of identity theft and credit card fraud. A search turned up crack cocaine hidden in a cigarette pack in his pants pocket. The man said he had just bought it. He also admitted he had a bag of weed, and pulled it out from one of his socks. He was arrested and taken to the county jail.
