(WBRE/WYOU-TV) The City of Wilkes-Barre has just added to its emergency fleet. A new ambulance was delivered on February 7th.

The 2018 Wheeled Coach Ford F-450 Ambulance was purchased from Keystone Emergency Vehicles through Pennsylvania COSTARS. The emergency vehicle is equipped with the latest technology. The administration negotiated for the purchase to include an extended 7-year warranty which will provide significant savings.

It will take about three weeks to fully equip the vehicle and get it licensed by the PA Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, before it can be put in service.

The new ambulance will likely begin service in March according to Tyler Ryan, Executive Assistant to Mayor Tony George.

Mayor Tony George stated, “The purchase of the new ambulance reflects my administration’s commitment to public safety.”

“I am thankful for the investment to serve our residents, with a state-of-the-art ambulance, which offers better patient care,” said Fire Chief Jay Delaney.

The $169,731 ambulance was paid for through the Office of Economic & Community Development‘s CDBG Funds. The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) is a program through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that provides federal funds to help address a wide range of unique community development needs, including Fire Equipment.
