An Amber Alert issued for Nicholas Andrew Perez, 4, of Petersburg, who officials believed was in grave or immediate danger, was canceled late Friday morning after the boy was found.

The boy who was last seen at around 6 p.m. Monday in Lubbock, was found Friday morning in San Angelo.

According to the alert, he was with Maricela Paz, 21, who was believed to be driving a white early 2000s model Mitsubishi with a Texas license plate.

KLBK in Lubbock, however, was reporting Friday that the child was never in any danger, that Perez, the youngster's mother, did in fact have custody of the child, and that Perez was the person who called San Angelo police.

Police took custody of neither the child nor the mother, KLBK reported.

Petersburg police Chief Brandon Thurman confirmed to KLBK that the alert may have been issued in haste.
