Michigan reports 1,308 new cases of coronavirus, 8 deaths over the weekend

Michigan has lost 8 more people to the novel coronavirus and 1,308 more people have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the weekend update from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

The state is no longer updating case numbers on Sundays. 

"Over the two days, the average number of new confirmed cases is 654 per day," the website says. 

The state's totals are now 6,731 confirmed deaths and 122,735 confirmed cases.

Michigan also reported on school-related outbreaks of COVID-19 on Mondays. There were 27 new outbreaks this week, with 92 cases. The largest was 8 cases at Michigan Technological University in Houghton County. There are 51 ongoing outbreaks affecting 3,933 people.

Michigan has a slightly decreasing fatality rate of 5.5% among known cases.

The state has a positivity rate of 3.24%, reporting 872 out of 26,892 diagnostic test results returned Sunday were positive. 

The state has reported 320 probable COVID-19 deaths and 12,967 probable cases.

The probable cases combined with the confirmed cases make for a cumulative total of 7,051 deaths and 135,702 cases.
