84 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in SD

There were 84 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in South Dakota Wednesday by the state health department.

That pushed the total number of cases past 6,000 to 6,050. There are 829 active cases statewide, an increase of nine.

One new death was reported by the South Dakota Department of Health, for a total of 78. Ninety-one people are currently hospitalized with 570 ever having been in the hospital because of the virus. There have been 62,938 negative tests.

In Brown County, the number of new cases climbed two to 315. No new cases were reported Wednesday.

There are 22 active cases, which is down four, with 15 people ever having been hospitalized and two deaths. There have been 2,295 negative tests in Brown County.

The new death was a person 80 or older from Lincoln County.

In Beadle County, 15 new cases were confirmed for a total of 467, according to the health department.

COVID-19 patients are using 4% of staffed hospital beds in the state and 6% of intensive care unit bets. Fifty-two percent of South Dakota hospital beds remain open, as do 39% of ICU beds.
