The Antonio Brown era in New England is over, and now the Patriots must move on and resume the defense of their Super Bowl title.

The Patriots released Brown on Friday, almost two weeks after they signed the star wide receiver. Off-the-field issues, including a civil suit filed against Brown in Florida last week, created unneeded drama for the Patriots.

New England will host the rival New York Jets at Gillette Stadium for their Week 3 matchup Sunday. The Jets are 0-2 and their roster has been ravaged by injuries through the first two weeks of the season. Starting quarterback Sam Darnold won't play as he recovers from mono, and backup Trevor Siemian won't see action again this season after suffering an ankle injury Monday night. Third-string quarterback Luke Falk will make his first career start for the Jets as a result.

The Patriots are 2-0 and have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 76-3. They also have not allowed a touchdown in 12 consecutive quarters dating back to last season's AFC Championship Game.

Oddsmakers are expecting a Patriots blowout Sunday. The spread is 22.5 points in favor of the Patriots. However, the Patriots are 0-4 all-time against the spread when it's 20-plus points.
