Sept 3 (Reuters) - Cheniere Energy Inc, the biggest U.S. LNG exporter, said on Tuesday that train 2 of the Corpus Christi liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal in Texas was substantially complete.

Cheniere has five liquefaction trains operating at Sabine Pass LNG export terminal in Louisiana and two at Corpus Christi. LNG plants are made up of trains, which are liquefaction facilities used to supercool natural gas so that it can be transported on ships.

Each train is capable of liquefying about 0.7 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) of gas. One billion cubic feet is enough to supply about five million U.S. homes for a day.

Natural gas use is growing rapidly around the world as countries like China seek to wean their industrial and power sectors off dirtier coal.

The company said the first commercial delivery is expected to occur in May 2020, according to sale and purchase agreements. (Reporting by Shanti S Nair in Bengaluru)
