Calgary police believe two men found dead inside a vehicle in the Marlborough neighbourhood Tuesday morning were the victims of a targeted shooting.

At around 9:20 a.m., police were called to the 1000 block of Marcombe Drive N.E. after receiving reports of a suspicious vehicle that was left running on the street.

The men’s bodies were found inside the vehicle when police arrived. The deaths are considered suspicious and the Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation, CPS said in a news release Tuesday morning.

Police believe the vehicle had been parked on the street since Monday night and that the two men were shot to death between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

“This was a violent and targeted incident that resulted in the death of two individuals,” Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

“While we are in the early stages of this investigation, this shooting has the hallmarks of organized crime. We are committed to keeping our community safe and asking anyone with information to contact police.”

Autopsies are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

A man who lives in a house across the street from where the car was parked said he and his wife fell asleep on the couch watching movies on Monday night.

“We didn’t see a thing, didn’t hear a thing,” James Baillie said.

When they woke up Tuesday, he said he opened the curtains to let some light into the house and a large section of the block was roped off by police tape.

“There was police everywhere, yellow tape going up around my yard. And I was like, ‘What did we miss?’

“We pretty well watched all day long out the window.”

Baillie said a police officer stopped by to ask if he saw anything or had any surveillance video.
