UPDATE: Further reports by THP reveal that the crash left a passenger of the Ford Escape, Georgia Arrowood, 91, dead. The report specified that Arrowood was seated in the right rear of the vehicle, and was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. The report also specifies that criminal charges are pending.

UNICOI COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) – A Unicoi County school bus carrying 8th-grade students was involved in an accident around 2:40 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24.

According to a crash report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the school bus made a state law required stop at a railroad crossing on Highway 81, Jonesborough Road, when a 2010 Ford Escape driven by 70-year-old Thomas Cox, failed to stop and rear-ended the school bus.

Charges are pending on the driver based on the outcome of the investigation by THP.

A social media post by Unicoi County Schools News and Announcements stated the driver and teachers were evaluated for injuries and four students were treated for minor injuries by EMS.

Also stated in the post, the school bus did receive significant damage in the crash.

All students are back in the care of their parents.
