On Dec. 1, 2006, Dr. James B. Victor, age 71, of Redart, died at his home under the compassionate care of his family and Hospice of Virginia.

He was born in Brigham City, Utah, in 1935 to Rudger and Duella Victor. He spent several years teaching young special education students and served in the U.S. Navy Corps. He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Utah State University in 1960 and his Ph.D. in Special Education from Syracuse University in 1970.

Dr. Victor was a professor at Hampton University in Hampton, Va., from 1979 until his retirement in 2006, where he established the Behavioral Sciences Research Center in the Department of Education.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Reed-Victor; his brother and sister-in-law, Maynard and Carol Victor of Bountiful, Utah; his son and daughter-in-law, Scot and Fran Victor of Hardyville, Va.; his daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and Russell Davies of Columbus, Ind.; his stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Frank and Lucy Albert Mooresville, N.C.; his stepson, Daniel Albert of Pasadena, Calif.; his sister-in-law, Jerri Reed of Portsmouth, Va.; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beth and Danny Williamson of Camilla, Ga.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dan and Mary Reed of Redart, Va.; his nine grandchildren, Christina Hall and her husband, Bill, Daniel Crego, Zachary and Hannah Davies, Gregory, Samuel and Ethan Albert, Alex and Gabi Zapatero; his niece, Julie Richards; and his nephew, Tony Victor.

A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in the Chapel of the Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Va.

A Celebration of Life will follow at the family’s home in Redart from 4 to 6 p.m.
