A female Chilton teacher has been suspended amid an investigation of allegations of an improper relationship with a student, Falls County Sheriff Ricky Scaman said Friday.

The sheriff’s office is investigating, he said.

The district later issued a statement to parents, staff and residents acknowledging the suspension.

“The Chilton ISD has been made aware of an alleged improper relationship between a female teacher and a male student,” Superintendent Brandon K. Hubbard wrote.

“Given the nature of this accusation, the female employee was immediately placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the district investigation,” he wrote.

“As district administration proceeded with the investigation, it became evident that the scope of the situation exceeded district capabilities. Thus, in an abundance of caution, we notified local law enforcement to conduct a more thorough investigation to determine if criminal charges are appropriate.”

One alleged teenage victim has been identified and sources with knowledge of the investigation said there may be others.

Further details weren't immediately available Friday.
