BOYS BASKETBALL

CEDAR SHOALS 67, BUFORD 61: At Cedar Shoals, in a battle between two state-ranked Class 5A teams, the No. 4 Jaguars topped the No. 10 Wolves in a Region 8-5A showdown and won their 11th consecutive game.

Quincy Canty had 29 points, five rebounds and three assists for Cedar Shoals, who also got 14 points, six rebounds and six assists from Tyler Johnson and 14 points, four rebounds and four steals.

The Jaguars (16-1, 3-0) will play at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Johnson-Gainesville. Buford (12-5, 1-2) will play Friday at Loganville.

CLARKE CENTRAL 85, LOGANVILLE 66: At Clarke Central, the Gladiators improved to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in Region 8-5A with a league victory over Loganville, which is winless in region play.

Clarke Central had five players score in double figures. Jaiquez Smith paced the night with 17 points and eight assists. Cameron Stokes had 12 points, Josh Smith added 11 points and Tracy Hill and Kyle Cowan contributed 10 points apiece.

The Gladiators will host Walnut Grove at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

ATHENS ACADEMY 54, PROVIDENCE CHRISTIAN 49: At Lilburn, the Spartans handed the Storm their first loss of the season as Deion Colzie recorded a double-double.

Colzie scored 18 points and pulled in 13 rebounds to lead Athens Academy, which got 16 points, five rebounds and five assists from Jack Nasworthy and 10 points from Wyatt Smith.

Winners of their last three games, the Spartans (5-3, 3-0 in Region 8-A) will host Towns County at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

PRINCE AVENUE CHRISTIAN 58, GEORGE WALTON 47: At Bogart, the Wolverines snapped an eight-game losing streak and won their first Region 8-A game of the season.

Joey Young led Prince Avenue Christian with 14 points. Andrew Cheek scored 12 points and Jared Deatrick rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points. Josh Britt chipped in eight points.

The Wolverines (5-9, 1-2) will play at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Hebron Christian.

JEFFERSON 58, JACKSON COUNTY 44: At Jefferson, the Dragons won for the third time in their last four games and improved to 10-7 overall and 3-3 in Region 8-3A. The Panthers dropped to 4-10 overall and 1-5 in the region.

Jefferson had four players score in double figures – Jacob Radaker had 14 points, Spencer Darby scored 13 points, Malaki Starks added 12 points and Kam Robinson chipped in 10 points.

Jackson County’s Kalib Clinton was the game’s high scorer with 26 points.

The Dragons will play at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Monroe Area. The Panthers will play at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Hart County, which opened the week ranked No. 3 in Class 3A but lost Tuesday night to No. 6 Franklin County.

WINDER-BARROW 61, HABERSHAM CENTRAL 46: At Winder, the Bulldoggs won for the fourth time in their last five games and improved to 12-4 overall and 2-1 in Region 8-6A.

Tyreek Perkins’ 16 points and four assists paced Winder-Barrow, which also got 13 points, five assists, five rebounds and four steals from Ahmad Scott and 13 points seven rebounds and four blocks from Isiah Nelson-Ododa.

The Bulldoggs will play at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Gainesville.

COMMERCE 74, BETHLEHEM CHRISTIAN 55: At Commerce, the Tigers improved to 11-5 with a non-region victory over the visiting Knights.

Four Commerce players recorded double-digit point production, including Jackson Morris (18 points), Creed Dunbar (16 points), Matthew Simpson (13 points) and Ian McConnell (12 points).

The Tigers (1-1 in Region 8-A) will play at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Academy.

MADISON COUNTY 74, NORTH OCONEE 64: At Danielsville, the Red Raiders had two players score in double figures as they defeated the Titans in a Region 8-4A game.

Adam Metts scored 28 points to lead Madison County, which also got 13 points from Roderick Jones.

The Red Raiders (5-14, 2-1) will play at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Elbert County. North Oconee (5-12, 1-1) will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Piux, which is ranked No. 8 in Class 4A.

EAST JACKSON 77, MONROE AREA 76 (2 OT): At Monroe, the Eagles had four double-digit scorers as they won their fifth consecutive game and improved to 11-5 overall and 2-4 in Region 8-3A.

Makayl Rakestraw led East Jackson with 27 points and four rebounds. Jimmie Jackson had 12 points and five rebounds, R.J White had 10 points and Jay Watson had 10 points.

The Eagles will play at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Shoals.

ST. PIUS X 71, OCONEE COUNTY 55: At Atlanta, the Golden Lions – ranked No. 8 in Class 4A – bested the visiting Warriors in a Region 8-4A contest.

Aaron Birston led Oconee County with 16 points (including four 3-pointers) and Da’Shawn Elder chipped in 10 points.

The Warriors (9-6, 0-3) will host Stephens County at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

HEBRON CHRISTIAN 70, ATHENS CHRISTIAN 52: At Athens Christian, the Eagles dropped their fifth consecutive game and are still winless in Region 8-A.

Naylon Curry scored 12 points for Athens Christian.

The Eagles (4-9, 0-5) will host Lakeview Academy on Saturday.

GAINESVILLE 62, APALACHEE 59: At Bethlehem, the Wildcats dropped their third consecutive game, despite a 27-point performance by Brayson Hayes.

Jamonte Wallace added 16 for Apalachee, which fell to 4-11 overall and 0-3 in Region 8-6A.

The Wildcats will play at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Lanier, which is ranked No. 5 in Class 6A.

MONTICELLO 75, OGLETHORPE COUNTY 54: At Monticello, the Patriots are still looking for their first win in Region 8-2A as the Hurricanes posted a league victory at home.

Oglethorpe County (3-13, 0-5) was led by Brandon Barnes, who had 22 points, and Antonio Stevens, who added 10 points.

The Patriots will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Union County.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

PRINCE AVENUE CHRISTIAN 37, GEORGE WALTON 26: At Bogart, the Wolverines squared their overall record at 6-6 and improved to 2-1 in Region 8-A with a league victory.

Karlee Armstrong and Noelle Hynes led Prince Avenue Christian with 13 points each.

The Wolverines will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Hebron Christian, ranked No. 2 in Class A Private.

ATHENS ACADEMY 49, PROVIDENCE CHRISTIAN 37: At Lilburn, the Spartans were in control from the very beginning, riding a 33-14 lead at the half, and improved to 8-7 overall and 2-0 in Region 8-A.

Freshman Madeline Wicker led Athens Academy with 14 points. Rose Bone tallied 12 points, Meredith Reynolds had eight points and Jaila Salley-Barnett registered seven points and five rebounds.

Athens Academy will host Towns County at 6 p.m. Friday.

JEFFERSON 51, JACKSON COUNTY 23: At Jefferson, the Dragons – ranked No. 3 in Class 3A – remained undefeated in Region 8-3A play as two players scored in double figures.

Jefferson’s Deshona Gaither led all scorers with 12 points and Allianne Clark added 10 points.

For Jackson County, Mikenna Duggy had seven points and Sydney Hayes had five points.

The Dragons (15-3, 6-0) will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Monroe Area. The Panthers (3-14, 1-5) will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Hart County.

MADISON COUNTY 75, NORTH OCONEE 47: At Danielsville, the Red Raiders won for the ninth time in their last 10 games and improved to 12-7 overall and 2-0 in Region 8-4A.

Kayla McPherson continues her torrid scoring pace, this time posting a game-high 32 points. Tiffany Wilson scored 22 points and Ella Chancey tallied 11 points.

For North Oconee, Ansley Hall had a team-high 17 points.

The Red Raiders will play at 4 p.m. Saturday at Elbert County. The Titans (12-5, 0-2) will play at 6 p.m. Friday at St. Pius X.

COMMERCE 56, BETHLEHEM CHRISTIAN 40: At Commerce, the Tigers had two players go for 20 or more points on a non-region victory over the Knights.

Bryanna Sanders led all scorers with 21 points and Carson Hobbs added 20 points for Commerce.

The Tigers (11-5, 1-1 in Region 8-A) will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Academy.

EAST JACKSON 58, MONROE AREA 41: At Monroe, the Eagles snapped a three-game losing streak with a Region 8-3A victory over the Hurricanes.

Maurissa Thomas of East Jackson led all scorers with 21 points. Haven Rollins contributed 17 points.

The Eagles (9-8, 2-4) will play at 3 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Shoals.

BUFORD 67, CEDAR SHOALS 35: At Cedar Shoals, the Jaguars fell in a Region 8-5A game to Buford, which came into the game ranked No. 1 in Class 5A and undefeated.

Ashley Lester led Cedar Shoals with 12 points.

The Jaguars (7-9, 1-1) will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Johnson-Gainesville. Buford (15-0, 3-0) will play Friday against Loganville.

ST. PIUS X 56, OCONEE COUNTY 36: At Atlanta, the Warriors lost for the fourth time in their last five games and are now 7-10 overall and 1-2 in Region 8-4A.

Julia Peroni led Oconee County with 16 points and Abby Dickens added eight points.

The Warriors will host Stephens County (ranked No. 8 in Class 4A) at 7 p.m. Friday.

LOGANVILLE 60, CLARKE CENTRAL 51: At Clarke Central, the Gladiators’ hard luck continued as they fell to the Red Devils, who came into the game undefeated in Region 8-5A.

Mikaylyn Glover led Clarke Central with 25 points and freshman India SHeats added 11 points.

The Gladiators (1-9, 1-2) will host Walnut Grove at 7 p.m. on Friday.

HEBRON CHRISTIAN 72, ATHENS CHRISTIAN 14: At Athens Christian, the outmanned Eagles were no match for Hebron Christian, ranked No. 2 in Class A Private.

Mali Todd scored 12 points to lead Athens Christian.

The Eagles (0-9, 0-1) will host Lakeview Academy on Saturday.

GAINESVILLE 66, APALACHEE 52: At Bethlehem, the Wildcats fell to 2-16 overall and 0-3 in Region 8-6A with a league loss to the visiting Red Elephants.

Apalachee was paced by Joanna Gross, with 14 points. Kelsey Knox contributed 13 points and Jasmine Williams added 12 points.

The Wildcats will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Lanier.

MONTICELLO 48, OGLETHORPE COUNTY 32: At Monticello, the Patriots lost their third game in a row and fell to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in Region 8-2A.

Emma Montoya led Oglethorpe County with nine points, followed by Shacoreyia Williams (eight points) and Katelyn Montoya (six points).

The Patriots will play at 6 p.m. Friday at Union County.

HABERSHAM CENTRAL 35, WINDER-BARROW 33: At Winder, the Bulldoggs dropped a Region 8-6A heartbreaker to the visiting Raiders.

Winder-Barrow got a team-high 14 points from Taniyah Parris and eight points from Daisia Stillwell.

The Bulldoggs (7-7, 1-2) will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Gainesville.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

NORTH OCONEE COMPETES AT LAMBERT: At the 14-team Lambert Holiday Invitational at the Cumming Aquatic Center, North Oconee recorded 16 top-10 finishes, with 11 for the girls and five for the boys.

In the girls’ relays, the 200-yard medley relay team (Katherine Xiao, Ansley Halbach, Ella Smith and Siya Kannon) finished tied for eighth place, the 400-yard freestyle relay team (Karen Zhao, Brynn Halbach, Kannan and Felicia Pursner) finished fifth and the 200 freestyle relay team (Zhao, Mary Mustard, Brynn Halbach, Pursner) finished seventh.

Individual girls’ swimmers included Ansley Halbach (third in the 200 backstroke, ninth in the 200 IM), Zhao (fifth in the 100 butterfly, eighth in the 100 breaststroke), Brynn Hallbach (seventh in the 100 butterfly), Ella Smith (eighth in the 500 freestyle), and Kannan (10th in the 500 freestyle), Pursner (ninth in the 200 backstroke).

In the boys’ relays, the 400 freestyle relay team (Henry Logan, Sam Krosner, William Johnson, Gavin Jones) finished third.

Individual boys’ swimmers included Jones (third in the 200 IM, sixth in the 100 breaststroke), Krosner (ninth in the 200 IM) and Logan (second in the 500 freestyle).

Heat winners included Isabella Lyons (200 IM), Xiao (100 butterfly), Caitlin Herron (100 freestyle), Smith (500 freestyle), Pursner (100 backstroke), Zhao (100 breaststroke) and Smith, Lyons, Pursner and Ansley Halbach (400 freestyle relay).

The Titans will return to the deck on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Clarke-Oconee Invitational at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the University of Georgia campus.

WRESTLING

OGLETHORPE COUNTY GOES 3-1: At the second annual Doug Eberhardt Memorial Duals at Independence Hall in Lexington, Oglethorpe County won three of its four matches.

The Patriots defeated Banks County (52-21), Jeff Davis (67-12), Winder-Barrow (68-10) and fell to Jackson County (36-30).

Oglethorpe County will compete this weekend in the area duals at Monticello.
