MA Eases Coronavirus Restrictions: Here's What's Reopening

Outdoor road races and indoor singing are back as the state moves to the next phase of reopening in the coronavirus pandemic.

MASSACHUSETTS —Road races with staggered starts and indoor singing are just a few of the activities now allowed as the state moved to the next phase of its coronavirus reopening plan Monday.

The easing of the restrictions comes of the same day Massachusetts began accepting walk-up appointments at its six mass vaccination sites and a day after the Department of Public Health reported it had administered more than 6.7 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

Among the activities and businesses allowed to reopen Monday:

  • Amusement parks can reopen at 50 percent capacity. Six Flags New England, which has a plan that includes social distancing and deep cleaning, will reopen to the general public on Saturday.
  • Road races and other large, outdoor organized athletic events. Organizers will have to schedule staggered starts and submit a safety plan before race day.
  • Indoor and outdoor stadiums can increase capacity to 25 percent from 12 percent.
  • Youth and adult amateur tournaments for "moderate- and high-risk" sports.
  • Singing at indoor venues with social distancing. This includes live music performance and choir singing at religious services.

Some communities, including Boston, Cambridge and Somerville, are going to keep local restrictions in place.

State officials are hoping they will be able to ease other restrictions later this month.
