Looking for Small Business Saturday deals? Here's what local shops are offering in Reno

Staff reports

While nothing is exactly normal this year, many retailers across Reno-Sparks are still offering deals this Small Business Saturday.

Members of the Reno Gazette Journal newsroom collected a few examples of deals that will be featured by local shops this weekend.

Want Nevada-made products? There's a website for that

Looking to do some socially-distant shopping this year?

There's now an e-commerce website developed this year to help folks buy authentic Nevada-made products: shop.madeinnevada.org. It's the product of a partnership between the Nevada Small Business Development Center and Member Marketplace Inc.

The website features Nevada retailers who offer books, home and garden items, music, food and more. The Home Means Nevada store even offers "Battle Born" face masks that look like our state flag.

Michelle Czarka, owner of the Pantry Vault, mixes a new batch of natural health products in The Basement of the Post Office.

Pantry Products

Smelling of linens and cinnamon, Pantry Products will be debuting new scents and products for the season on Small Business Saturday.

The local apothecary, which will have extended hours for Small Business Saturday (10 a.m. to 7 p.m.) crafts candles, scrubs and other wellness products.

“This year has been a lot of change, and we’ve had a few growing pains,” said General Manager Jessica Vela, who noted that the other location in The Basement closed in July.

Vela, who said she’s seen “For Lease” signs all around town where there used to be local businesses, said Pantry Products has made it by offering subscription boxes and personalized products for all skin types.

She’s noticed that people have been buying products as gifts year-round since everyone’s helping each other find comfort at home.

“Everyone needs a little extra love this year,” said Vela, and that includes small businesses. “We can give back to the community, we need you guys.”

With the rise of COVID-19 cases in the area, the shop will be offering appointment only shopping hours during the holidays, Vela said.

Pantry Products is located at 1375 South Wells Ave.; for appointments call 775-683-9844.

Craft Wine & Beer in Midtown Reno is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, for last-minute beverage buys.

Craft Wine and Beer

Craft Wine and Beer is your quintessential neighborhood bottle shop, offering a dizzying selection of imported wines, fine liquors and beer.

Craft first opened its doors in the heart of Midtown on Dec. 13, 2010.

The shop is perhaps best known for its giant walk-in cooler with a stock of imported and domestic beers renown for inducing what regulars describe as decision paralysis.

Owner Ty Martin said the shop met myriad challenges adapting to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions this year.

Shop in person at 22 Martin Street with mask on, or online at craftreno.net, where each week a variety of special wine-selection packages are offered.
