6 new south Dakota COVID-19 deaths, as state offers vaccine event help

The South Dakota Department of Health released an online assistance form for organizations seeking help to host a COVID-19 vaccination event. Through the form, the state Health Department will link those organizations with local vaccine providers. The form is intended for groups who have 40 or more members interested in receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — South Dakota health officials reported six new COVID-19 fatalities on Thursday, Sept. 23, and they offered to assist local events to get people vaccinated against the illness.

The South Dakota Department of Health released an online assistance form for organizations seeking help to host a COVID-19 vaccination event. Through the form, the state Health Department will link those organizations with local vaccine providers. The form is intended for groups who have 40 or more members interested in receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.

“Choosing to get vaccinated is the best way to combat COVID-19, for both individuals and communities. More shots-in-arms will result in a quicker path out of this pandemic,” said Secretary of Health Kim Malsam-Rysdon, in a news release. “In addition to the many places people can already receive a vaccine, working with local leaders is key to making vaccines available to all who want them.”

The online assistance form is available at https://doh.sd.gov/COVID/Vaccine/default.aspx .

The six newly reported fatalities raised the state's COVID-19 death toll to 2,115.

All data is the latest available but should be considered preliminary and could be updated at a later date by health officials.

  • NEW HOSPITALIZATIONS: 19 (seven-day daily average: 30)

  • ACTIVE HOSPITALIZATIONS: 203

  • TOTAL HOSPITALIZATIONS: 7,263

  • DEATHS, NEWLY REPORTED: 6

  • TOTAL DEATHS: 2,115
