Man dies after being struck by vehicle near Hagerstown

A man died Friday night after being struck by a vehicle north of Hagerstown, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said.

Jonathan George Silverman, 32 of Hagerstown, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash despite efforts of emergency medical personnel, according to a news release from Cpl. Carly Hose.

The sheriff's office responded Friday at about 9 p.m. to the 13600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue near Maugans Avenue for a report of a person struck by a vehicle.

According to the release, the preliminary investigation found a Ford passenger car was traveling northbound on Pennsylvania Avenue when the vehicle struck Silverman, who was standing in the middle of the travel lane. At the time of the crash, the area of the roadway was very dark and he was wearing dark-colored clothing.

The sheriff's office said theinvestigation is continuing.
