A 29-year-old Littleton man was identified Tuesday as the pilot of a Colorado-based plane that went missing in New Mexico last month.

Nicholas Peterson and a still-unknown passenger went missing Sept. 26, last seen taking off from Santa Fe Airport, New Mexico State Police said in a news release. Air traffic control quickly lost contact with the plane, a single-engine four-seater registered to American Aircraft Brokers in Englewood.

Search and rescue teams eventually found the plane on Sept. 30 in the Pecos Wilderness after three days of intensive searching.

The Office of Medical Investigator is working to identify the passenger, state police said.
