One Click Smile Donates Teeth Whitening Kits to Women Transitioning Back into Society after Incarceration

Company specializing in at-home, professional-grade teeth whitening kits hopes free products will give women a boost as they seek employment, rebuild lives after leaving correctional facilities.

One Click Smile is committed to helping people feel more pride in their smile through affordable professional-level teeth whitening systems. This month, they will begin providing those kits to formerly incarcerated women to support their efforts to confidently rebuild their lives and careers.

One Click Smile was founded by Tanaz Warden. In her career as a dental hygienist, she discovered a lack of good teeth whitening options; “in-chair” whitenings at the dentist’s office were prohibitively expensive and often required multiple visits per week. At-home treatments, on the other hand, were ineffective and sometimes even harmful. After years of scientific research, she and her pharmacist husband developed the One Click Smile system, which relies on gel pens (no messy trays), blue light, and the perfect ratio of hydrogen-peroxide to produce desired lightening in six short treatments.

The One Click Smile team is committed to making their community a better place and has recently started a program to donate their teeth whitening kits to organizations that help formerly incarcerated women transition back into life.

“There’s a big burden on these women as they try to rebuild family ties and find employment,” said Tanaz. “We want them to look in the mirror and feel good about their smile so that they can feel empowered to move forward with confidence.”

A Prison Policy Initiative released last year asserted that in light of the 1.9 million women that are released from prisons and jails each year, “it’s concerning how little attention and how few resources have been directed to meet [their] reentry needs.” The report said that research has shown that women returning home have “a significantly higher need for services than men,” in part because of their higher rates of unemployment and homelessness and the fact that they are less likely to have a high school education than their formerly incarcerated male counterparts.

In addition, research published in Criminology and Public Policy found that for poor women on probation and parole, poverty is the number one indicator of recidivism and that providing help with temporary economic needs during reentry can decrease recidivism rates by 83% (Holtfreter, 2004).

“There’s a lot of work to be done to decrease recidivism, but we’re proud to be playing a small role in helping these women present themselves confidently in their efforts to further their education and get employment,” said Tanaz.
