Large fire at furniture warehouse in northwest Houston; Shelter-in-place order lifted

The Houston Fire Department is working to put out a large fire at a furniture warehouse in northwest Houston.

HFD issued precautionary shelter-in-place order due to the heavy smoke from the fire. That order has since been lifted.

Residents are asked to avoid the area.

Officials said they were called to a warehouse located on Wakefield Drive near Alba Road after reports of heavy smoke coming from the building. Crews were on scene within four minutes of receiving the initial reports.

More than 100 firefighters were called to the scene.

HFD Arson investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of this fire.
