MACCLESFIELD, N.C. — An investigation is underway after a fire station burned to the ground Sunday.
Rocky Mountain Telegram reported that the Macclesfield Volunteer Fire Department station was destroyed in a blaze, as well as three department vehicles and virtually all of the equipment.
“We don’t know how it started,” Mayor Mike Keel said.
According to Keel, the State Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco and Explosives is investigating the blaze.
Fire Chief Teddy Stamatis managed to save one tanker truck by driving it away from the blaze as debris came down around him.
Nine other fire departments from the area responded to the fire, which burned for four hours.
Insurance will help cover the replacement of trucks and equipment, but the fire department started a GoFundMe to help rebuild a new station. Click here to donate.
