Truck stolen from St. Luke’s in Allentown finally stopped in Berks County, police say

UPDATE: Box truck thief admits he took it, swerved at pursuing police ‘to mess with them,’ cops say

A 23-year-old Allentown man just before 9:30 a.m. Thursday stole a Hospital Central Services box truck from St. Luke’s Hospital in the 1700 block of Hamilton Street in the Queen City and drove it until he was forced to stop by authorities in Hereford Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania State Police report.

Troopers located the vehicle driving on Route 100 in Lower Macungie Township and pursued it until they were able to make a “controlled stop” at Kriebel Road in Hereford, Trooper Nathan Branosky said in a news release.

The truck at one point struck a parked vehicle at Route 100 and Buckeye Road in Lower Macungie, Branosky said.

No injuries were reported, Branosky said.

Troopers from the Fogelsville barracks were assisted by troopers from the Skippack barracks, Emmaus police, Upper Mauncgie Township police, Macungie police and Bally Community Ambulance, the news release said.

While police labeled the incident as a stolen vehicle and fleeing and eluding, specific charges weren’t listed and the news release did not name the 23-year-old.
