Dublin Youths Collect 182 Pounds Of Food For Thanksgiving

Two Dublin middle schoolers organized a Thanksgiving food drive in their neighborhood in just three days.

DUBLIN, CA — Two Fallon Middle School students collected 182 pounds of food to benefit families on the week of Thanksgiving.

The idea to organize a food drive first occurred to seventh grader Adi Jain as he finished school last Friday and contemplated all of the local families affected by COVID-19, said his sister, Trishala Jain, in an email. Adi and sixth grade friend Sriram Kannan joined forces to invite more than 150 homes in the Positano Hills neighborhood to participate.

They planned and carried out the food drive in just three days, and received a donation from a third of homes they contacted.

"My brother and his friend were incredibly passionate about quickly starting this food drive in their community not only to unite their neighbors and bring them together over a common cause, but also to support those in need as Thanksgiving comes close," Ms. Jain said.

Adi and Sriram donated the food to John Knox Church. The pair has hopes of planning additional food drives to support the community in the future.

Feeding America, which supports 200 food banks across the country, estimates that in 2020, more than 50 million Americans will not have enough nutritious food to eat due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. This is a Patch social good project; Feeding America receives 100 percent of donations. Find out how you can donate in your community or find a food pantry near you.
