Vice President Pence visits NH, touts President Trump's COVID-19 plan
Vice President Mike Pence was on the campaign trail in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Wednesday, giving President Donald Trump props for the economy and defending his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We're just a matter of weeks away from having a safe and effective coronavirus vaccine,” Pence told the crowd of supporters at the outdoor venue in Portsmouth. “Tens of millions of doses will be available to the American people. That's what real leadership looks like.”
The vice president criticized former vice president Joe Biden on health care, jobs and taxes.
“Come November 3rd, it's going to be a choice between a Trump recovery and a Biden depression,” Pence told the crowd.
He called for law and order, and more police. “Under President Donald Trump, we're not going to defund the police,” Pence said. “Not now not ever.”
Polls show President Trump trailing former Vice President Biden in New Hampshire. At this rally, people didn't believe it.
“I think we are way up high,” supporter Jennifer Nguyen, who drove up to New Hampshire from Malden said. “We are gonna win this election.”
“I think he's going to absolutely win in New Hampshire and he will take it nationwide as well,” Dick Hinch, a Republican with the New Hampshire House of Representatives said.
In recent weeks, both campaigns have been relying on surrogates to get the message out to voters in New Hampshire, a swing state with four electoral votes.
“We need four more years of President Donald Trump in the White House,” Pence said.
