Indiana coronavirus cases: 3,228 new cases, 24 additional deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health reported 3,228 new cases and 24 additional deaths Sunday.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the state has seen 590,211 total positive cases and 8,936 deaths.

Both new cases and hospitalizations have been decreasing in the past week. The 7-day average of positive cases reported Sunday was 3,814. 

Hospitals across the state on average still have capacity to admit patients to intensive care units. A reported 24.5% of intensive care unit beds across the state are in use by coronavirus patients and 28.4% beds are available. Nearly three-quarters of the state's ventilators are available with 10% used by coronavirus patients.

A total of 2,348 people were at hospitals for coronavirus treatment, down from a small spike at the start of the year. There were 37 new coronavirus admissions to hospitals. Some recent data are preliminary and may be revised. 

The seven-day average of unique coronavirus tests that come back positive is 24.2% as of Jan. 10, the latest date with available data.
