Dr Hilary Jones has encouraged people to remain positive amid the coronavirus outbreak – because we already have a headstart on finding a vaccine, and there’s going to be one hell of a party afterwards.

Speaking on Lorraine the medical professional warned that we have a rough 18 months ahead of us – but once it’s over, Britain will be more prepared than ever before.

‘There is going to be light at the end of the tunnel,’ he added. ‘There’s going to be casualties, of course, it’s not going to be pleasant at all.

‘But I like to think of VE Day – all those scenes of celebrations and wild parties and the bars are full and the pubs… everyone’s behaving badly!’

‘That’s what it will be like 18 months from now,’ he said. ‘And you need to visualise that and get through this really difficult patch together, because if we pull together we will.’

He added that researchers, thanks to the Sars virus outbreak that has previously occurred, already have a headstart on what they’re looking for.

‘All of this is going to take time,’ he said. ‘But it’s going to be as soon as we possibly can, so watch this space.’
