Lake County driver killed after decayed tree falls on car
A 57-year-old man from Lake County was killed when a rotted tree fell into the road and crushed his car while he was driving Friday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The tree fell on the man’s pickup truck on State Road 40 near Astor Transfer Station Road in Astor Park around 6:15 p.m., FHP Lt. Kim Montes said in a release.
The driver, from Astor, was pronounced dead at the scene, Montes said. His name has not been released.
The FHP’s investigation found the tree was completely rotted prior to collapsing. There was no rain in the area before the accident that might have caused it to fall into the road, Montes said.
The crash is still under investigation.
