Body found by fishermen in Gulf Shores

Gulf Shores Police Department detectives are conducting a death investigation after a body was discovered by fishermen in the Intracoastal Waterway, the 3,000-mile inland waterway along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts.

On Saturday, July 18, around 7:20 a.m., GFPD officers responded to a radio reporting a body found in the water approximately one mile west of Canal Park. The Baldwin County Coroner's Office responded to the location along with GSPD detectives.

The cause of death could not be determined during the preliminary investigation and the body was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Mobile for a complete forensic examination.

According to detectives, the deceased was a white male in his 40s and his identification will not be released prior to notification of next of kin.
