SAN JOSE – A male juvenile was shot and killed near a childcare center in San Jose on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Officers were called to the 1900 block of Senter Road, near the Paseo Senter housing development, about 12:20 p.m. for a report of a shooting, said San Jose police Sgt. Enrique Garcia. They arrived to find the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

No suspects have been arrested or identified, said Garcia, adding that the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity once it has been confirmed and his next of kin is notified.

The death marks the city’s 19th homicide of the year. At the same point in 2019, 20 homicides had been recorded in San Jose.

A childcare center at Paseo Senter was open at the time of the shooting, and parents were called to pick up their children.

Anyone with information about the shooting can contact Detective Sgt. TJ Lewis or Detective Brian Meeker at 408-277-5283, or leave a tip with Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at 408-947-7867 or at svcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
