SAN BENITO COUNTY – Crews on Thursday were battling a 1,400-acre wildfire southeast of Hollister that started the day before.

The Coyote Fire ignited just before noon Wednesday at Panoche Road and Coyote Creek, west of Panoche, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The blaze was 80 percent contained as of Thursday evening. Evacuation orders remained in place.

KSBW reported that the fire had destroyed two to three structures and was threatening as many as 50 others. There were no immediate reports of any injuries.

Bolado Park at 9000 Airline Highway was being used as an evacuation area but has since been placed on standby, according to the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office.

“The sheriff’s office is still in the area checking on residents and providing security,” the sheriff’s office said in an advisory. “We are grateful for the brave firefighters who are attacking this fire.”
