MOWEL. Walter A. Mowel, 63, of Norfolk, New York, died Tuesday (May 28, 1996) at his home. Born in East Hartford, he had resided in the East Hartford area for most of his life, prior to moving to Norfolk, NY eleven years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was the owner and operator of the former Nip N Tuck Tavern in Raymondville, NY, and also the former owner of the Broad Street Motors Used Car Lot, Hartford for 25 years. He was an active volunteer baseball umpire in the Greater Hartford area for many years. Mr. Mowel is survived by his beloved companion, Stella Simon of Norfolk, NY; two sons, Michael L. Mowel of East Hartford and Alan E. Mowel; five brothers, Edward Mowel of East Hartford, Benjamin and Joseph Mowel, both of South Windsor, William Mowel in Pennsylvania, and Stanley Mowel of West Hartford; a sister, Frances Leman Harvey in California; three grandchildren, Michael, Matt, and Jessica Mowel, all of East Hartford; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be this evening, 8 p.m., at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Private burial service will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call today, 2- 4 and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
