SAN ANGELO – Tucked into a series of long buildings sits a new business selling Texas-made sauces and salsas.

Salsa-Basket, 716 Knickerbocker Road, behind FastSigns, opened its doors in January. The store has about 30 varieties of salsas, jams and more.

The best-selling products include Bacon Flavored Salsa, Pineapple Salsa and Strawberry Jalapeno Jam.

Bacon Flavored Salsa is one of Salsa-Basket's best-sellers at 716 Knickerbocker Road and online.

Products range from $7-8 and can be bought in the store from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday or any time online.

"We're right here in San Angelo ... and local folks can find us, too," owner Jay Gannaway said. "A few folks have discovered us, but for the most part we are just starting."

It started online about a year-and-a-half ago when Gannaway and a salsa maker in Plainview met up. The family of salsa makers were creating goods in their barn, and Gannaway asked if he could sell their products online.

"I have not bought another jar of salsa or jam at the grocery store," Gannaway said on his website. "At my house, we had two grocery lists: what we needed from the store and what we needed from Robert’s barn."

And the business took off.

Salsa-Basket ships goods nationwide, with most of those sales happening between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The products now come from two vendors, one in West Texas and the other in East Texas.

"I enjoy shipping Texas products all over the country and the positive feedback," Gannaway said.
