Robbie Williams has launched a surprise festive track, Can't Stop Christmas.

The singer, 46, has released the cheeky song which pokes fun at the past 12 months, with references to Zooms, hand sanitisers and social distancing.

One of the lines in Robbie's new Christmas song reads: 'Santa's on his sleigh, but now he's two metres away', as he jokes about the social distancing rule.

Can't Stop Christmas' is a fun take on the traditional Christmas song with playful lyrics reflecting on an unprecedented 2020 complete with an upbeat melody and seasonal jingle bells.

Robbie's latest track begins: 'Oh what a miserable year, but what a time to be alive // Sadly some friends disappeared // It's never been like this before // It feels like we're at war.'

Continuing: 'So I wonder who's gonna decide, if we can do the Auld Lang Syne // I wish that I could do what I like // With this family of mine //We're going out of our minds.'

Another poignant line of the song reads: 'The people gonna need something to believe in // After a year of being in.'

When asked what Robbie would like for Christmas this year, he jokes that 'socks and sanitizer will do fine', as all shopping has gone online because the high street is closed. 

Adamant Robbie continues: 'You can't take away our season //  Like you can't take away the wine // Santa's on his sleigh, but now he's 2 metres away.'

Sensing the mood of the nation, he adds: 'Why oh why are we all waiting // The whole damn world anticipating // Beyond boredom past frustration //The planet's locked in what ifs and maybes.'

The single is taken from the critically acclaimed The Christmas Present – Robbie's most recent and first ever Christmas album which is out now.

The double album features a brilliant mix of original songs and special festive covers featuring star guest appearances including Rod Stewart, Bryan Adams, Jamie Cullum and Tyson Fury. 

The album gave Robbie his 13th Number 1 solo album last December, meaning he reached the amazing feat of equalling Elvis Presley's chart record as the solo artist with the most UK Number 1 albums.  

The new single sees Robbie working once more with long-time producers Guy Chambers and Richard Flack.
