Due to a rise in COVID-19 cases, the Mineral County Health Department made a formal recommendation to the Alberton School District to postpone their start date to Sept. 1.

School officials have confirmed that school will begin Sept. 1.

Alberton and our greater community are seeing a significant rise in COVID-19 cases. Mineral County Health Department reached out to our school administration last night and discussed their concerns regarding school going back into session this week. They have made a formal recommendation to postpone the start of school due to the uncontrollable outbreak (see image). Open House, which was originally scheduled to happen tonight, Tuesday the 24th, is cancelled, as well. These decisions were difficult to make considering our strong desire to welcome students back to school, but in putting children’s best interests first, there is no other option but to pause. We will communicate more detailed plans for return to school as more information becomes available.

We miss our students and are disappointed that the pandemic has caused a disruption in our children’s education. Thank you for your support in keeping the Alberton community safe. Wishing nothing but healthiness to all and a speedy recovery for those affected by the COVID virus.

Sincerely,

Alberton School District

Superintendent Jeff Crews

Principal Mica Clarkson
