MIDLAND, MI — An anonymous donor has paid off $3,000 worth of layaway orders at the Midland Walmart store.
Walmart spokeswoman Tara Aston confirmed the shopper, who wished to remain anonymous, paid for the items on Monday, Dec. 2, and specifically requested the money go toward layaway accounts containing toys and other children’s items.
The Midland Walmart store is located at 910 Joe Mann Blvd.
“It’s especially touching when customers pay off others’ layaways during the holiday season and serves as another example of the generosity our customers show year-round," Walmart officials said in a statement. "We’re honored to play a small role in these acts of kindness and we love seeing the joy it brings to our customers this time of year.”
Aston said Walmart sees these random acts of kindness during the holiday season every year across the country. Sometimes these donors dubbed “layaway angels” will pay off other shoppers’ accounts in full, other times they’ll pay all but a dollar or a penny. Beneficiaries will learn of the donation they have received when they attempt to make a payment on their layaway account, she said. She didn’t know exactly how many accounts the $3,000 donation made at the Midland store covered, but estimated it would have been 15 to 20.
