There are now six confirmed cases of caronavirus in Indiana. Tuesday two cases from Adams and Boone counties were announced by the Indiana Department of Health.

This adds to cases reported in Noble, Marion and Hendricks counties.

Monday morning, Hickory Elementary School in Avon announced it will close for two weeks after a student tested positive for the virus.

Additionally, all Avon schools are on an e-learning day, where students stay home and get school assignments online, Monday in an effort to curb the spread of the illness, district officials said Sunday in a message on their website.

Noblesville Schools, meanwhile, announced that a parent has been directed to self-quarantine after attending an out-of-state event where someone else tested positive for the illness but schools in that district are staying open.

The Hendricks County Health Department notified Avon Schools late Sunday that a student tested positive for the virus.

"It is our intent to provide our Hickory students with ongoing learning opportunities, which may include e-learning and other experiences," Avon Schools said in the message. "Hickory students and staff will be able to return on Monday, April 6th, following spring break."

Noblesville schools alerted families to the potential risk for exposure Sunday.

The parent arrived home late last week, the district said, so there was little risk for exposure during the school week but the family did attend a Noblesville High School baseball event. The district is urging anyone else who attended that even to be vigilant in monitoring for symptoms of the disease. Those include fever, cough and shortness of breath.

The district said that the parent is complying with the directive out of an abundance of caution and will also be keeping their children self-quarantined to avoid any potential exposure to Noblesville Schools students.

At this time they have no symptoms and have not tested positive for COVID-19, the district told families Sunday.

Earlier on Sunday state health officials announced an adult in Hedricks County was the second Hoosier who tested positive for the virus, also known as COVID-19.

That patient traveled to Boston last month to attend the BioGen conference, Officials said. The patient's symptoms began on March 2 and has been isolated with mild symptoms. The patient was not hospitalized.

Health officials on Friday announced the state's first case of coronavirus after an adult who lives in Marion County tested positive.

State Health Commissioner Dr. Kris Box said in a statement Sunday that the new case was not a surprise.

“I urge Hoosiers to continue to educate themselves about this illness and take common-sense precautions, but also to be aware that the vast majority of COVID-19 cases are mild in individuals without underlying medical conditions," Box said.
